Low Dog of the Lakota people. He was an Oglala Chief who fought with Sitting Bull at the Little Big Horn. He became a chief at the age of 14. His account of the Battle of the Little Big Horn was published in the Leavenworth, Kansas, Weekly Times in 1881.
The warriors in these paintings were spiritual leaders of their people. I have portrayed them in the way European Renaissance painters would portray their spiritual leaders with halos around their heads. Since the American Indians believe we are all connected to all living things I used natural skies for halos.
