Pretty Nose of the Arapaho/Cheyenne was a woman warrior chief. She fought at the Battle of the Little Bighorn against Custer. She lived to be 101 years old, long enough to see her son, a U.S. Marine, who fought in the Korean War come home after the war. She was maybe the original “Wonder Woman”.
The warriors in these paintings were spiritual leaders of their people. I have portrayed them in the way European Renaissance painters would portray their spiritual leaders with halos around their heads. Since the American Indians believe we are all connected to all living things I used natural skies for halos.
